Different TNB and electrical matters require different information, documents, access, approvals, and payments.
Not every customer will need the same things.
The exact requirements depend on factors such as:
the type of service;
whether the customer is an individual or company;
the property;
whether electricity supply already exists;
the condition of the electrical installation;
the intended electrical requirement;
TNB requirements; and
other parties involved in the matter.
This page provides general guidance.
You may need to provide information such as:
full name;
identification details;
contact information;
company information where applicable;
TNB account information where relevant; and
other applicant details required for the particular matter.
Depending on the service, you may need to provide:
property address;
property type;
ownership or occupancy information;
tenancy information where relevant;
existing electricity-supply information;
existing meter or account details;
building-management information where applicable;
developer information where applicable; and
other property-related details relevant to the application or work.
Some documents need to come directly from the customer.
Depending on the matter, these may relate to:
identity;
company registration;
property ownership;
tenancy;
existing TNB account;
authorization;
property information;
approvals; or
other supporting evidence.
We will advise which documents apply to your particular case.
Some documents are only required in certain situations.
For example, additional documents may be needed where:
the customer is a company;
the property is rented;
the applicant is not the property owner;
a company representative is acting on behalf of the company;
building management approval is required;
another authority is involved;
a consultant is involved; or
the property or supply arrangement has special requirements.
Where they form part of our agreed scope, we may prepare or coordinate documents such as:
electrical information;
technical documents;
drawings;
calculations;
contractor forms;
testing or certification documents;
TNB application information; and
other supporting documents required for the electrical scope.
The exact documents depend on the service.
Some documents may need to come from other parties, such as:
Electrical Consultant Engineer;
building management;
developer;
landlord;
local authority;
other contractor;
other consultant; or
another relevant organization.
These documents remain the responsibility of the party that needs to provide them.
Electrical and TNB matters may require access to the premises.
You may need to provide access to:
meter area;
electrical distribution board;
electrical installation;
service entrance;
relevant rooms or equipment;
common areas where permission has been obtained; or
other parts of the premises required for inspection or work.
If access depends on another party, such as building management or landlord, the necessary permission may need to be arranged first.
During the process, the customer may need to:
approve a quotation;
confirm the intended electrical requirement;
approve additional work;
approve rectification;
authorize an application;
sign documents;
approve TNB charges or quotations;
make a decision between different technical options; or
respond to a request for clarification.
We will advise when customer action is required.
Different payments may belong to different parties.
Our charges relate to the professional work included in the agreed scope.
TNB may impose separate charges such as:
deposits;
connection-related charges;
meter-related charges;
infrastructure-related charges;
RJO charges;
restoration or other service charges; or
other applicable TNB costs.
Other costs may include:
consultant fees;
authority fees;
civil work;
building-management requirements;
developer-related requirements; or
other third-party costs.
The important question is always:
Who is charging, and what is the charge for?
Photos can sometimes help us understand the situation before a site visit.
Useful photos may include:
meter area;
distribution board;
existing wiring condition;
damaged or missing components;
TNB equipment near the premises;
service entrance;
relevant documents or notices; or
other visible conditions related to the enquiry.
Photos do not replace a site inspection where one is required.
Where relevant, it can be useful to provide:
existing electricity bill;
account number;
meter information;
TNB reference number;
TNB letter or notice;
previous application information;
quotation;
RJO information; or
other TNB correspondence.
This helps identify the existing matter more quickly.
If possible, prepare:
1. What you are trying to achieve
For example: new supply, restore meter, increase supply, move TNB cable, terminate account.
2. Property information
3. Whether electricity already exists
4. Any existing TNB information
5. Relevant photos or documents
You do not need to know the exact technical service name.
The exact checklist depends on the job.
A useful starting point is:
customer information
↓
property information
↓
existing TNB information
↓
relevant documents
↓
site access
↓
customer approvals and payments
From there, we can identify what else is required.
