Account Termination is used when the electricity account at a premises needs to be closed under the current customer’s responsibility.
This may happen when:
the customer is moving out;
the property is being sold;
a tenancy is ending;
a company no longer occupies the premises;
the electricity account is no longer required; or
another arrangement is replacing the existing account.
For an individual account, the registered account holder normally carries out the Account Termination personally.
For a company account, an authorised representative may act where the applicable company authorization requirements are satisfied.
For a company account, an authorised representative may act where the appropriate company authorization requirements are satisfied.
This normally includes the required authorization letter and supporting company information.
For Account Termination, our normal role is mainly:
explaining what the termination does;
advising what information or documents may be required;
helping the customer understand the correct route;
helping the customer prepare before carrying out the transaction; and
assisting with any separate electrical work that may exist at the same premises.
We should not be understood as the executing party for every Account Termination transaction.
Leaving a premises does not automatically mean that responsibility for the electricity account has ended.
The account needs to be properly terminated or otherwise transferred through the applicable TNB process.
This helps ensure that the previous account holder does not remain responsible for electricity usage or obligations that occur after they have left the premises.
Depending on the account and customer type, the customer may need:
identity information;
company information where applicable;
existing TNB account information;
property information;
authorization documents where applicable;
meter or account-related information;
other supporting documents required by TNB; and
applicable payments or settlement.
The exact requirements depend on the circumstances.
Depending on the situation, TNB may:
process the account closure;
confirm any outstanding amount;
process the applicable deposit or account balance;
disconnect or arrange the applicable meter / supply action; or
carry out another account-related step.
The exact outcome depends on the account and premises.
No.
Account Termination is primarily an account-holder responsibility matter.
If the premises also requires:
meter-related work;
supply restoration;
electrical rectification;
disconnection-related electrical work;
preparation for a new customer; or
another contractor service,
that should be treated as a separate electrical scope.
For an individual:
the account holder normally executes the Account Termination personally
For a company:
an authorised representative may act where the required authorization is in place
Our role is mainly to help the customer understand and prepare for the process.
