RJO is used for customer-requested TNB work.
Depending on the matter, it may involve TNB services such as:
service wire work;
TNB pole work;
TNB cable work;
shutdown / hentitugas;
relocation or alteration of applicable TNB equipment;
other TNB-requested work; or
other work that must be carried out by TNB rather than by the customer or Electrical Contractor.
The exact RJO scope depends on the customer’s requirement and TNB’s assessment.
In many cases, yes.
A customer may be able to initiate the request directly with TNB.
However, the customer may not always know:
what exact TNB work needs to be requested;
whether the request affects the customer’s electrical installation;
whether customer-side preparation is required first;
whether shutdown coordination is needed;
whether circuits need to be altered;
whether another electrical work sequence is required; or
how TNB’s work should be coordinated with contractor work.
This is why customers often appoint an Electrical Contractor to help manage the technical and coordination side.
Where the matter falls within our scope, we may:
inspect the site;
understand what the customer is trying to achieve;
identify the relevant electrical issue;
determine whether an RJO is the appropriate route;
identify customer-side electrical work that may be required;
prepare or assist with relevant information;
coordinate the RJO request;
carry out applicable electrical work within our scope;
arrange appropriate competent-person involvement; and
coordinate the sequence between our work and TNB’s work.
TNB remains responsible for work on TNB-owned equipment and infrastructure.
Depending on the request, TNB may:
assess the request;
determine the applicable TNB work;
issue applicable TNB charges or quotation;
schedule the work;
arrange shutdown where required;
carry out work on TNB-owned cables, poles, service equipment, or other TNB assets;
complete the applicable requested work; and
restore or continue supply as required.
The Electrical Contractor does not take over work that belongs to TNB.
The Electrical Contractor handles the applicable customer-side electrical responsibilities and coordinates them with the TNB work.
Depending on the job, this may include:
inspection;
electrical assessment;
circuit preparation;
customer-side wiring changes;
rectification;
testing;
competent-person involvement;
shutdown preparation;
sequencing of contractor and TNB work; and
final customer-side completion after TNB work is done.
A typical RJO matter may follow:
Customer requirement
↓
Site / electrical assessment
↓
Identify what work belongs to TNB and what belongs to the customer side
↓
Prepare customer-side work if required
↓
Submit / coordinate the RJO request
↓
TNB assessment
↓
TNB quotation / requirements where applicable
↓
Customer approval / payment where required
↓
Coordinate shutdown / site readiness / contractor work
↓
TNB carries out the applicable TNB-owned work
↓
Complete any remaining customer-side electrical work
↓
Testing / verification where applicable
↓
Matter completed
The exact sequence depends on the requested work.
The customer may be able to make the RJO request personally.
But an RJO can affect:
circuits;
service wiring;
load arrangements;
shutdown requirements;
customer-side installation;
meter or supply arrangement;
sequencing of work; or
site readiness.
The customer may therefore need more than administrative assistance.
The Electrical Contractor helps make sure the customer-side work and the TNB-side work are coordinated correctly.
Depending on the case, the customer may need to:
explain the intended outcome;
provide customer and property information;
provide relevant TNB account details;
provide site access;
approve proposed work;
approve TNB quotation or charges where applicable;
sign documents where required;
make applicable payments; and
respond when customer action is needed.
Different charges may come from different parties.
Our charges may relate to:
inspection;
assessment;
electrical work;
rectification;
circuit changes;
competent-person involvement;
testing;
request preparation;
RJO coordination; and
other agreed contractor work.
TNB may impose separate charges for:
TNB-requested work;
shutdown;
relocation;
TNB asset work;
service work;
labour;
materials;
infrastructure-related work; or
other applicable TNB services.
Additional costs may arise if other contractors, consultants, civil works providers, building management, or authorities are involved.
The important distinction is:
who is charging → what the charge is for
The matter is complete when:
the required customer-side preparation has been completed;
applicable TNB requirements have been satisfied;
TNB has carried out the requested TNB-side work;
any remaining customer-side electrical work has been completed;
testing or verification has been completed where applicable; and
the agreed contractor scope has been fulfilled.
RJO can be understood as:
Customer needs something involving TNB-owned equipment or TNB work
↓
Electrical Contractor helps identify and prepare the customer-side requirements
↓
TNB carries out the applicable TNB-owned work
↓
Contractor completes the remaining customer-side work if required
↓
Matter completed
